23 Feb 2006
I plan to write gmat in first week of May
Status of my current prep is as follows
PS & DS - Have been regularly solving problems from OG – have done OG10 almost till half way mark. Solving in PS plus DS in sets of 37 – on an average getting 2-3 wrong. Able to manage time well
SC Has been a problem – time as well as accuracy is an issue. Have been getting avg. 5 wrong in sets of 20 from OG10. I am not sure how to improve
CR Time mgmt is an issue – accuracy is good – have solved 18-17 in the time allotted for 20 , and have got them all right. When I have rushed couple of times , have got 19/20 in time
RC Have not started focussed prep , but am somewhat confident – should not be a big problem.
My proposed prep schedule is as as follows
From 23 Feb – March end
Do focussed prep for each section separately – may be 3-4 days in a row
Focussing esp on Quant and SC
Plan to finish all OG – 10 as well as 11
( I am going to be travelling for 10 odd days for business trip – but should be able to study on most of the evenings )
APRIL
Keep taking tests – 2 per week ( GMATPREP , Kaplan and Princeton ) and revise
error log
Some of my specific questions are
1. does the overall plan above sound ok ? is there any change required ?
2. how does time management work in Quant ? – my experience has been that DS on an avg take 1 min – whearas some tough PS take even 4-5 mins – but overall I have managed total section in time. Is it ok to keep this as a thub rule ?
3. I am having a problem in managing time in Verbal overall – in SC as well as CR , I tend to take little more than 2 mins – how does time managememt typically work withn the verbal section ?
4. are GMATPREP and POWEPREP completely different tests ?
5. Have heard mixed reviews on Kaplan ( too difficult ) and Princeton ( too easy ) – how best to use them and how best to interpret the results ?
6. does OG10 have any trend on degree of difficulty ? i.e. do the problems get tougher as you keep moving across each subsection ?
