AWA Cutoff?

all..

i am now getting worried of awa... is there any cutoff in the schools you apply to? i have practiced only 2-3 essays till now.. i feel comfirtable with the princeton template.. but have never got my essay officially reviewed by anyone.. any tips?

i am getting really scared.. my exams coming up soon!!!!

Check out the sample essays in OG. They are categorized by score. Compare your essays with those. IMHO, if you are above average with your writing and English skills, then you should score atleast a 5. The AWA focusses more on the structure of your essays.

i am very bad in writing skills.... i am getting really worried.. is 4 acceptable to the top tier schools?

what can i do in the last 48 hours to improve this awa score?

i am memorizing princeton review template for issue and argument
and then i plan to fill the data where they have blanks.. will that do?

how much logic they see when you analysing an argument.. do they expect you to cover/attack every assumption and every premise?

Dont bother abt AWA... U do not need to practice! Just keep writing.. as long as it is

- Structured
- detailed and long
- and to the point (ie not off topic)

You will get your score!

i dont even think it NEEDS to be long ... LOGICAL but not super long ... my essays were about a page each ... i didnt have time to read the first one so im sure i made a few spelling errors ... but they grade on logic more than anything else! and dont worry i only practiced 1 essay before taking the test and came out with a 5.5 

just make sure you know the dif between were where we're things like this will kill you. otherwise just watch your structure and logical argument progression

thanks guys... i guess i was having last minute nerves here.. i think i should do ok on awa... sometimes in the argument section, i just get blanked out.. dont know which premise or assumption to attack?

any ideas ?

i look for assumptions that i see not valid, i try to see if he is changing tracks of his argument, like he moved from private buildings to all buildings...

but i have never been good at arguing (apart from the arguments with my wife :wink:

)

As has been said many times, AWA is not weighted very heavily at all. I didn't even look at it once when studying and got a measly 3.5 with my 730(48Q,42V). HBS never brought it up once in the admissions process.

So quit worrying over it, you'll do great. Best of luck on the test.
