Hey guys/gals, I have a quick question. How are GMAT questions rated in terms of difficulty? Is it a "pre-determined" level (easy, medium, hard question) that GMAC ranks the question, or is the question difficulty based on the percentage of how many people get it right?
For example, questions from question pack 1 and 2 from the MBA.com store and OG question bank from Wiley's website have questions that are already pre-determined in difficulty; the difficulty assigned can be vastly different from the difficulty levels produced by GMATclub's timer for the same question.
-A "hard" question from the question packs can be rated as "easy" on GMATclub.
And does this apply to questions during the actual GMAT exam?
For example, questions from question pack 1 and 2 from the MBA.com store and OG question bank from Wiley's website have questions that are already pre-determined in difficulty; the difficulty assigned can be vastly different from the difficulty levels produced by GMATclub's timer for the same question.

I can tell you that for GMAT Club in particular, the question difficulties based on the user attempts. The difficulty can sometimes be skewed because of the universe of questions. Even though we have 100,000 topics with various questions, people tend to attempt and discuss mostly difficult questions which puts more pressure on that specific category.
As the result I can see some difference in what would be a diff question on gmat club vs gmat.
As to GMAT, they use a method of assigning difficulty based on experimental questions and expected difficulty versus actual so the GMAT dials in the difficulty in a similar way as GMAT Club does but they have a lot fewer questions and that’s the result some fairly easy questions could be judged as medium and so on.
