Hi guys!,
last week, I took the GMAT for the second time after a misleading attemp with the online version.
I aimed to score at least 500 for an MBA program. However, I only achieved 470. This is a very poor result for me and I can´t explain why I reached such a low score. During the exam, I felt well and answered the most of the questions with a good and comfortable feeling. Both the verbal and the quantative part seemed very familiar with me. It is unbelievable why I saw such a "bad result" on the computer screen after the exam. This result is far out of my expections.
In the last weeks, I spent at least five hours a day for the exam preparation. I prepare now for 3 months. I invested so much power and energy for the preparation, sometimes far more than I was capable of. At the moment, I feel a little bit burned out and don´t know whether I can find new energy and how I can continue my preparation. The last weeks of my prep were quite good and I had a positive feeling. The official mock tests (test 1-6) showed a score towards 600.
To identify my weaknesses I bought an enhanced score report (see Annex). Can you detect any abnormalities?
The most important question is now: how to continue? Should I use a special tactic for the first questions in the exam?
Perhaps, I will retake the GMAT in 2 weeks for another attemp.

The ESR’s are not that valuable in my view but it seems in this case you can glean something. For one, You were spending too long on CRs. You should aim to spend half the time. That’s all I can see of value right now... maybe someone else can see something else.
A lot of the reasons for low score is poor time management. There is knowledge of topics and then there is time management. Even if you know a certain topic, but you have no time left, there’s no way for you to get the question right. Make sure that you do not spend more time than you half during any part of the test. The goal is to finish with just seconds remaining but also not be super rushed in the last five or 10 questions. It is OK to be in a little hurry at the end. You should be in a little hurry throughout the whole test but you don’t want to half 10 minutes and 10 questions remaining.
As to your prep, I am not sure that spending five hours a day studying is sustainable and valuable. I could not spend more than probably three hours a day studying and digesting and most of the time it was only two. If I spent more time, I wouldn’t remember most of the next day.
Based on your score, there’s room for improvement in both verbal and quantitative. Pick the area you’re stronger in, and focus on that that will likely result into more improvement faster. I would also recommend making handwritten notes and taking quizzes at the end of the chapter. I would not take 100 questions a day but 10 to 20 depending on how much you have covered. You should aim to get at least six out of 10 questions and ideally seven or eight correctly.
