HOW TO IMPROVE MY GMAT SCORE AFTER 6 MONTHS OF STUDY

Hello Dear,

Please I took gmat exam twice and got 590 after 5 months of study with Egmat tools, then 3 weeks later went for 2nd attempt and scored 540. Please tell me if I can get in LBS, GSB, CBS and Wharton with this score. If not what do you suggest me to improve my score.

I would suggest that you analyze ESR from your last two mocks and work on those weak areas
- You can order ESR of last two attempts from MBA.COM
- You should take more mock tests and get into the habit of getting in the habit of building test taking stamina
- Take personal tutoring if needed

Hi  NBAGMAT2020 , the schools you are targeting are all top notch schools and might be bit of a stretch, at your current scores.

Let us know:

i) Your sectional splits in both the attempts

ii) How much were you scoring in official mocks

iii) How were you faring vis-a-vis time management (ESR would help, as Shikha aptly suggests in her post above)

Since you are interested in some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. The two Official Scores you noted are considerably lower than the Average GMAT Scores at each of those Schools, so it's reasonable to assume that you would need to score notably higher to have a good chance at receiving in invite to any of those Programs.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) When did you take your 2 Official GMATs and what were the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each attempt?
2) What type of study routine were you following over the last 6 months? How many hours did you typically study each week?
3) Have you used any other study materials besides the course you mentioned?
4) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
5) When are you planning to apply to School? If it's sometime soon, then what specific application deadlines are you facing?

If you took either your Official GMATs at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Sorry about how things went with your GMAT. I don't think you would have a chance to get an interview call from the schools you mentioned with this score. Instead, I would suggest you to work on your weak areas, identify what's holding your score back, make sure you rectify those and give GMAT when you are 100% confident. Let me help you here.

There is a certain way you have to prepare for GMAT. GMAT is a test of application of concepts. So, your preparation must be mostly around learning the right methodology. I'm sure you must have focused on learning the concepts. But conceptual knowledge will only help a little in scoring well on GMAT. The stronger your application skills are the better your score will be.

The path ahead: 
I'm not sure how you prepared till now, but I would suggest you to prepare in a structured manner from now. To be precise, I would suggest you to:
  Learn the concepts of a topic (Deal with one topic at a time) 
 Learn the methodology to solve questions of that topic 
 Practice a few questions to solidify your learning 
 Move to the next topic, only if you get decent accuracy. If not, revisit the concepts and the methodology 
 Repeat the process for all the topics 
 Once done with all the topics, start taking timed quizzes

This is how you prepare for GMAT in the right way. This structured process will help you keep track of your preparation and will help you to work on your weak areas in a better way.
