Question

Hello All,

This is a great forum. Very very helpful !!!

I just started working on preparing for GMAT. I am pretty bad on vocab so I am starting with the wordlist (let me know if its worth or not). 

There are too many resources available for the preparation (like OG, Kaplan, Princeton). I am wondering where to start with and how to start with. And how long it takes for the complete preparation.

Start by reading the GMAT and the Share your GMAT Experience forum for a few days. Most beginner questions are answered very well.

Next, take a diagnostic test to assess your strengths and weaknesses. That should give you an excellent starting point.

The 'how long should I prep' question is best answered by measuring your progress. You are ready when your data tells you that you are ready.

Stick to the official material as much as you can in your first few weeks of prep. It will help you learn the basics well. Start with the Official Guide for GMAT review, 11 edition. For additional practice with Critical Reasoning, get the LSAT Superprep. I would again like to emphasize the importance of tracking your progress.

Finally, participate in the forum. You will learn when you try to explain your answers.

FYI - there is no vocab on the GMAT...

If you are talking about SC, I would highly reccomend the Manhattan GMAT SC book - it rocks!!!

Thanks aloooot for your prompt suggestions this will definately be helpful. A quick question - I am planing of starting with Princeton and vocab first ...do you ppl think its a good idea ?

Thanks for your suggestions ...do you think it will be ok if I'll start from OG ...I think its pretty tough ...so thats why I am thinking of starting from Princton.

If you are going to ask a question you should really read the replies. Diegmat already pointed out, in response to your original question, that the GMAT does not test vocab. Studying a wordlist just doesn't apply to the GMAT.

As far as where to start and how long it will take, that depends on what your current level is. The OG is the only guide where you can be sure the questions accurately represent what you will face on the real thing.
