Target GMAT score with first practice CAT 690

Question

I took my first practice CAT on manhattan prep yesterday, and scored a 690 (43 quant--45th%, 40 verbal--90th%). I have not had any prior prep or study aside from an explanation of data sufficiency questions. I hope to take the exam for real before starting my job on August 30 of this year. What is a realistic target score, and what should my focus be?

690 is a great start! You have to set a score goal per your needs and timeframe. I think your focus should be on quant as it seems you are good at verbal. If you learn how to use gmat club resources to the fullest, it can add some extra points.

A 690 is an outstanding initial CAT Score - and assuming that you took this CAT in a realistic fashion that matches-up with how you will take the Official GMAT - these results show that you are a strong overall critical thinker, which is great!

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What study materials do you currently have access to? 
2) What is your overall goal score?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

I strongly recommend TTP especially for Quant . Since your verbal is already on the higher side, going through their "Hard" level questions should be enough. Being a fellow at TTP myself, I have seen a lot of improvement.

It's probably the Quant which you might want to look at. The Verbal looks in good shape, though isolating your weak spots could be helpful there, too.
