hi all, am relatively late to the gmat application game, but i took the gmat recently and scored 710 (Q44 V42). I am aiming for M7 (wharton and columbia as top choices, may try at H), have a 3.3 from one of Columbia/Penn and am an URM Male. I would like to focus on my essays at this point, but am a bit worried about my quant score. I did not have the most quant background in undergrad but my job is quite quanty. Should I just focus on essays during these next 6 weeks?

As an under represented male this is competitive; percentile seems bad but it’s a solid enough# of right answers. Do you have B or better grades in math, stats, quanty or analytical classes? I would urge you to just focus on applications until deadlines- do those exceedingly well, ( not just essays but talking points for recs, online app/short answers and above all your resume) You might get a letter to speak to analytical abilities if possible. Because your test score doesn’t matter if your applications are a half assed effort.
You might include in the additional information that you will be retaking the test or if you don’t feel you have a better score in you, maybe doing MBA math which is a pretty simple way to remedy any potential concerns and can get done in about 2 weekends. indicate you’ll be doing that after submitting your applications. At the very least they will waitlist you. That is if they are interested in what they are reading.

First off, a 710/Q44 is an outstanding overall Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. The Q44 won't "impress" anyone, but it won't necessarily keep you from earning an invite either (with the possible exception of highly-competitive Finance or Specialty Programs). You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:
