Hi User897,

Magoosh is good. Also, consider going through manhattan prep strategy guides for concepts. The link might be useful: https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-study-p ... ml?fl=menu

Good Luck!

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I took my first GMAT exam. Let's say that I underestimated the challenge. Indeed I studied for 1 month using only the official GMAT book and studying on average 1-2hrs per day. I did not take any mock exam. I did the exam and got a 580 (35V and 35Q).

Now I would like to improve this score to 700 in 3 months. I could dedicate 2hrs per day to the study.

I would like to have a study plan more structured than my previous one (it should not be too difficult) and I am planning to use magoosh.

Do you have any suggestion?

Hi User897,

When you choose a resource, make sure to choose one which helps you with the right aspects for your GMAT preparation. As GMAT mainly tests your application skills, the resource you choose must help you with:
  • Concepts
  • Methodology (Very important)
  • Practice questions
  • Their detailed solutions

So, you first learn the concepts of a particular topic, then learn the methodology to solve questions of that topic and only then practice questions to solidify your learning. This is how you go about your GMAT preparation. The resource you choose must make your prep a lot more structured and effective.

And one more important thing to look for in a course is the study plan. To make your prep effective, you need to be really consistent. So, a study plan will help you to be consistent. Having said that, you cannot follow a study plan which doesn't suit you. For example, a person who can dedicate just 3 hours a day cannot have the same study plan as a person who can dedicate 6 hours a day. So, the study plan has to be personalized. And not just that, it's important to have the right guidance from the mentor because students often get stuck in the middle of their prep and do not understand how to proceed further.

You can go through the article below to understand how to choose an online course

Key factors to consider while choosing an online course for GMAT
The best way to choose an online course is to check the free trials of the courses and then decide which suits you the most. I suggest you to check the free trial of GMATWhiz and then take a decision. It provides you with a personalized study plan by taking into account the number of hours you can dedicate for studies in a week. It focuses mainly on the application of concepts and has detailed solutions for the questions which helps you to learn the right methodology. And a dedicated mentor will be assigned to the student once he/she enrolls for the course. The student can get in touch with the mentor once in every 15 days to seek guidance on how to proceed further.

Hope it helped. If you have any queries regarding the study strategy or the resource, you can get in touch with me using the below link. I will be happy to help.

Hello User897,
welcome to join Gmat club. I have seen a friend of mine who was not happy with magoosh CR, RC, and its practice question, so Magoosh might not be a comprehensive option. I observed that TTP is great on both verbal and quant , and it has a great option to see complete course at only $1 for a few days, so you might try it.

Good Luck!

Hi User897,

Considering that you studied for just one month (without taking any practice CATs/mocks), a 580 is a solid GMAT Score (the Average Score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years). Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet. If you can consistently study - and put in the necessary effort to learn and master to the proper Quant and Verbal Tactics - then a Score Goal of 700 is achievable in the timeframe that you've described.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) Did you take your Official GMAT at a Test Center or through the At-home option?
2) What “brands” of CATs/mocks do you currently have access to?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi

Since you've already taken the test, you have a clear starting point and end point (score wise). The key question now is WHY? Why did you score a V35 and (more importantly) a Q35. You need to find the gaps in both conceptual knowledge and test taking skills.

The biggest problem people have when prepping for a retake is repeating the same practice problems, practice test cycle without understanding EXACTLY what's holding their score back.

We offer a FREE 90 minute diagnostic session LIVE with a GMAT Performance Coach. It will answer the WHY question more clearly than anything you can do on your own. And it will increase the focus and efficiency of your retake prep from 20% to 90% by allowing every minute you spend prepping now forward to have direct impact on your score.
