Hey all, I need some strategy advice. I’ve been studying non-stop for the past 6 months and it doesn’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I bombed it twice over the summer (44 and 45) and am aiming for 50. I’ve got a third attempt scheduled for next week but I’m thinking I should cancel based on latest CAT, so looking for input on what to do or how to majorly re-tool my study strategy.
I’m at 250 hours in TTP with 94% completion, got a 93% on the second global review. Thought I was in good shape but my latest official CAT was only 47, down from 49 over the summer and down from two 48s I got before TTP. Official questions feel so much different than TTP. I’m out of official CATs and feel I’ve hit a dead end.
I’ve also been through every problem the OG books (many multiple times) and have spent a lot of time on my errors. I’ve taken two GMAT Club CATs in the last week (47 and 40). I don’t know what I’m doing wrong and don’t see how I could possibly put more time and energy into this with no improvement.
Should I cancel the test next week and postpone applying another year (I am in my 30s so already very old to be applying) or just throw in the towel? I don’t understand what I should be doing differently and why my strategy and ~500-600 hours total have gotten me no where. I know it’s unpopular to admit the existence of an “IQ ceiling” on this test but is it actually common to perform this poorly after pouring in so much time? At what point is it best to just let it go? I have to get back to my life at some point so would love to hear from others who have been in similar situations.
