thanks for ur advice...i will surely try my best to follow it...i heard a lot about manhattan gmat books...where can i find them..and also is it a useful material? iam not able to figure out where to begin my prep..kinda nervous....hope someone can help me out?

thanks

I am taking my GMAT same time you do. You need to take a diagnostic test to see your level. After that you can get the books. You gotta hurry though. I would recommend OG 11th edition, PR or Kaplan book with a CD to brush up ur basic skills. What is ur target score? What is ur background?

hey,

Well my target score is between 650-700 but of course anything above, is definitely a plus.. :)..it looks like u r way ahead of me in u r prep..iam surely feeling the pinch..anywayz i have completed my B.E in computer Science, have just about 8 months of work x..i know its not a great figure...but i have decided to take up my Gmat. Since iam currently not working , i can put in atleast 6-8 hours of study time everyday....

Download GMATprep and take the first test. It will tell you where you are. Then you can plan your studies. You can get the software @mba.com

Vaas,
Only you can decide how much time you really need depending on your how fresh you are with your quant and how comfortable you are with verbal.
Most people take atleast 3 months to prepare, but ofcourse there are exceptions. Doing the basic groundwork in quant and verbal takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks depending on the time you spend. Then you need about 4 weeks to go through the various CATs, revise and hone your skills.
As Tajik has suggested you could take the gmatprep test. Or go to a local bookstore and thumb through the contents of a GMAT book to see what is tested. Try a few of the questions posted on teh verbal or quant forums and see where you stand vis-a-vis other test takers. Search on this forum and read the stickys, you'll see how people with various backgrounds did on their GMAT along with their prep strategies.
Hope this helps!

Do not get discouraged by the score you get. It is just the beginning of the quest ;)

First, change yor attitude. This is not a college, and no one's gonna "come to rescue" except yourself. I may sound harsh, but GMAT is a tough challenge, and it's entirely up to you to drive yourself to victory. With that "help me boys" approach, you're going nowhere. (and no, you don't *give* the GMAT. You *take* the GMAT. Feel the difference? ;))

Now, to some more practical stuff. Buy Official Guide. Study the math & verbal concepts given there, as well as different problem types at GMAT. Then take a mock test. Analyze your performance and identify what types of questions give you most pain. Then you can proceed to hardcore study.

Be sure to mind your timing. During mock test, try to note down the time every question takes, as well as overall timing scheme. See if you lag behind and have to run through last questions. See if you agonize too much with some question type, and force yourself to do an educated quess when time is up.

...and read the forums. Read, read, read. Search. Answer problems. Participate.

I have the following books:

Kaplan Math Workbook
PR Cracking GMAT
OG 10th and 11th
Kaplan 2005
Arco GMAT

I would suggest you start with Kaplan Math, then work on OG 11th. I can email Manhattan SC book. You can also buy GMATCLUB math challenges. I heard they are good. I am saving them for the dessert :)
