Relation between sectional score and accuracy

Question

Hi, I wanted to know what is the relation between sectional score and accuracy?
Say for Q51, what would be the accuracy for 700-800 level qs, for 600-700 level qs? How many incorrect answers can be tolerated for a score of Q51?

Similary if I'm targeting V44, what should be my minimum accuracy for 600-700 level questions, and for 700-800 level questions?

It's hard to say. I've seen Q50 ESRs that show only one mistake in the quant section. Similarly, in the verbal section, even  2 mistakes could also drop your score to V42 . I'm not saying that most test takers will see results like this, but we can't control the difficulty level of the questions the GMAT gives us, and that makes it very hard to link score and accuracy.

No, that's not correct. As far as I know, test takers can get a Q51 with up to 4-5 mistakes. I may be wrong about this, so you may want to tag experts like IanStewart, KarishmaB, and Bunuel.

The broader point is that we should generally not try to link score and accuracy.

Checking publicly shared ESR data by people who've scored Q51 or V44 could be helpful to get a sense what type of performances may get those section scores. If you google for them, consider adding the keyword "gmatclub" in your search query. On Verbal, fair to say the accuracy gets pretty steep at a certain point. A V48, for example, is actually the result of a single counted question being incorrect.

Hi walterwhite756.

If you want to score Q51, you should plan on missing at most 2 hard Quant questions, and missing 1 or 0 questions would more reliably result in Q51.

To score V44, you should get all medium Verbal questions correct and miss maybe 3, max 4, hard Verbal questions.
