Hi there,
A little bit about myself: I recently graduated from college in May of this year. My full time job doesn't start until September, so I decided the summer would be a good time to study and prepare for the GMAT (~3 months of prep). I plan on taking the test in the first week of September before work starts. My idea is that since GMAT scores are valid for 5 years, if I get a score I'm happy with now, I can use that down the line when I plan to apply to schools in 3-4 years.
First looking into the GMAT, it's safe to say I was overwhelmed by the vast amount of options for GMAT prep. After watching some youtube videos and doing some research, I decided it would be best to purchase some sort of course from a test prep company. I decided to go with the self-paced course from Princeton Review. Took a cold mock from them on day 1 and got a 650 (Q43 V37). Was a little disappointed because I had always been good at math and performed well on standardized tests, so to not even crack 50% on quant was surprising to me. I was definitely humbled. I finished the course in about a month, and to be honest I was pretty disappointed with it. It mainly relied on strategies such as plugging in/estimation when clearly just doing the algebra would have been more efficient. I really settled on Princeton Review because I knew they had been in the game for a while and were a well-respected company, but to be honest I probably should have researched more and gone with something like TTP. It still helped me brush up on some of my skills and helped me get familiar with the exam, so all in all not a complete waste.
Anyways, in this next month, I'm wondering what would be the best course of action to study. Mainly, I have been using
Forum Quiz on GMAT club going through OG questions. I start with easier/medium questions, and once I hit my target accuracy there I move up. For example, I've been doing 650-700 level quant questions and once I hit 80% of those, I move up to higher level questions. After each question (right or wrong), I go through the discussion to see the how the experts would approach it, helping to fill any knowledge gaps I have. After about a week of using
Forum Quiz, I took my first official mock (Practice Exam 1) and got a 730 (Q49 V40). I was honestly surprised with my performance. My goal is to score a Q47-Q49 and V40+. Sure, I would be ecstatic if I could get a Q50 or Q51 but I think I would need more time and not sure I could do that now.
Should I just keep doing official questions on
forum quiz (I've also been using it for LSAT RC)? Fortunately, I do not have many obligations before I start work in September so I'm able to use most of the day to study (been trying to do about 4-5 hours of practice each weekday). I'm wondering if this is the best use of my time/course of action moving forward. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
