Hi, I have booked my exam for the last week of September (26th sept to be precise). I am looking for some advice as to how I can scale up my score by 40-60 point in the days that I have left. I am targeting a score of around 680-700 and planning to get into the Masters in Management (MIM). I am targeting schools like St Gallen (MBF program), HEC Paris (MIM), and LBS (MIM). I have a bachelors in management with a specialization in finance and want to pursue finance as a career. I am aware that the average Gmat scores for some of the schools I have mentioned are around the 720 mark, however I have had my profile been looked at by a few consellors and they have mentioned that a score around a 680-700 can give me a fair chance. The issue is-Gmat has been my biggest hurdle so far and I am unsure if I can even get to a 680 at this point.
I took up a local course last year which got me up to speed with everything in terms of the format of the Gmat, the topics tested and the basics. However, as I was still in my final year of undergrad I couldn't find the time to religiously study for the Gmat and postponed it for later(current year). Coming to this year, starting May 2023 I began self-studying-rewatched the old course's videos (since I still had access), made notes and began solving questions. I spent around 4-5hrs a day studying solely for the Gmat.
Initially everything was going quite well. Soon, I realised that my weaker section is quant and I really needed to learn to apply concepts the Gmat way. Verbal was fairly okay as I was still solving Sub-500 and 500-600 level question on Gmatclub and was able to maintain around 80-90% accuracy. With this in mind I focused all my attention to quant and after a lot of learning, I was able to solve the 600-650 difficulty level questions on Gmatclub. I practiced verbal alongside quant too but the majority of my day would be focused on quant. I solved the entire OG(Verbal and Quant)- it went fairly well except for some of the hard difficulty questions. Feeling confident with the progress I had made in the past 2 months, I decided to take my first official mock around the third week of July. Upon starting the exam, reading so many instruction screens for the first time, I was already extremely nervous. Somehow I managed to compose myself and just continued with it-I got a 640 (Q44, V34). I was not to happy but not disappointed either. I knew that the quant had always been tough for me but I was in a bit of a shock looking at the verbal score.
Post this I began giving verbal as much importance as quant, and around 3 weeks later I took my second mock. This time I got a 620(Q48,V28). I just don't know what happened here. I did struggle a bit with time and had to guess a few(2-3) questions on quant, but a similar thing happened in the first test too, besides some of the questions in quant I would just spend too long on and had to end up guessing so I could move on. I took this mock on the 14th of August and after this I have just been confused as to what to do. I went back to solving questions but I just can't seem to cross those 600-650 level questions, both in quant as well as verbal. Suddenly I have just lost touch with quant too and am struggling in general even with the 600-650 level questions. On top of this, I have been getting terrible IR scores too, I got a 3 on my second mock, so now that has started worrying me.
I was starting to loose hope but I have decided to stay resilient and work to improve my score in the 30 days I have left.
I would appreciate advice as to what I can do to progress further.
