Long story short, I screwed up my GMAT exam real bad. I scored 600 (Q42, V30) on my test. I've been preparing for roughly around 4 months now, but to be honest my preparation didn't catch steam until 2 months ago. Nevertheless, I put in a lot of hard labour. I used the following to practice questions:
1) GMAT Official guide - Had 90% accuracy in all sections except in SC Qs (accuracy was ~84%).
2) GMAT Verbal and Quant review - Again had similar accuracy.
3) GMAT Advanced - Accuracy in all sections droped to ~85% but that in SC Qs took a nosedive - to little over 65%.
4) Random GMAT club quant questions by Bunuel.
Something that I did not do while practising with these questions was to time them. This was, in hindsight, the biggest mistake I've done in my prep. I took both the official GMAT practice tests few days prior to the exam date. The scores were shocking to say the least:
1) GMAT prep test 1: 550 (Q36, V30). I should also mention that this was my first time trying out of full fledged GMAT test and boy was I in for a shock. Pretty sure I had atleast 3 panic attacks inbetween the test (not an exaggeration). Had left almost 10 questions in both quant and verbal (that decision of not timing the questions came back to bite me).
2) GMAT prep test 2: 770 (Q50, V44). After the first disaster, I really had 0 hopes for this one. But because I didn't have any hope, my anxiety and stress were as low as it could realistically be. I also revamped my time management strategy and exam taking order before giving this test.
Although I got some confidence from the second test, it didn't not reflect on the exam day. I had a hard time finishing the exam on time. I pretty much had to guess the last 4 questions in both quant and verbal. I feel that I can do much better in Quant but what really surprised me was my verbal score of V30. I have been pretty good at CR and RC, although my performance in CR has been degrading since last few weeks. I'm really not sure as to how I can strengthen my verbal score, it seems like it's all over the place. I'm especially confused with CR as it has been my strong suit (as far as accuracy goes). I could also really use some advice with the overall strategy I should follow to reach a target score of 700+. Thank you for reading 🙏🏼. Hope you have a good day.
