Hi All,
I wrote by GMAT on 11th Nov and got a 540. Scored 42 - Quant & 23 Verbal, didnt prepare much for IR but scored 4. I am not good at Sentence correction. I am planning to apply for 2025 intake and i am confused which one to choose. I already prepared for 3 months under classic program but seems like its not enough. Now that we are appearing towards deadline for GMAT classic ( Jan31), i want to understand what route should i choose? Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
Considering your current score of 540 and the aim for an increase, especially if you're targeting 700+, switching to the Focus edition might be a strategic move, especially as the GMAT Classic deadline is approaching. Also, given your challenges with Sentence Correction, focus edition could play to your advantage. Best of luck with your studies!

If you decide retake the classic, consider checking out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for SC. If you get/share your ESR here (after wiping any personal info), people may provide some specific suggestions as well. In case time management was an issue, question/time markers may help.

To start, studying for the GMAT now - far in advance of when you will actually "need" your Score - is a smart choice. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) Over the last 3 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Switch to focus immediately. It is unlikely that you will have enough time to improve your score from 540 to the extent you want before the classic deadline. Also focus removes things like sentence correction and geometry. If these are weaknesses for you, it will improve your score. So don't waste any more time studying for parts of the exam that won't exist in a few months. You have a lot of time if you're targeting 2025 so just take your time with focus.

I think this is good advice to switch to the Focus. There are not that many downsides to the Focus. Just prep for it. Your IR/DI score is not any worse than your Q and V.
