Hello everyone,
I have just taken the first official GMAT practice exam and scored horribly.
I scored 600 (V26,Q47) and I struggled through almost all of the questions. Some of the questions felt like I had never seen them before and I did not have a good time management strategy. The 5 minute remaining timer showed up when I was on the 26th question in Verbal and on the 28th question in Quant.
I have followed TTP thoroughly for my preparation and I was doing fine (scoring 60-70% in hard tests) in TTP.
I have already booked my exam for next week and I simply do not know what to do at this point. I cannot reschedule the exam and have to take it on the booked date.
Shall I do more practice tests? Try to work on verbal? Does it make sense to give the exam this close after a score like this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions at all.
Hey
ShreyankMFirstly, it's important to recognize that a 600 on your first GMAT practice exam, especially with your strong Quant score (Q47), is a solid starting point, so don't be too disheartened. The gap in your Verbal score (V26) indicates the area where you should focus your efforts in this final week.
Given your time constraints, here are some actionable steps:
Focus on Verbal: Since Quant seems to be your strength, dedicate a significant portion of your remaining time to Verbal. Review key concepts, especially in areas you found challenging.
Practice with Purpose: Instead of taking more full-length tests, focus on targeted Verbal practice. Use GMAT prep materials to hone in on specific question types you struggle with.
Time Management: Work on pacing. Practice sections with a timer to improve your speed without sacrificing accuracy. Knowing when to move on from a question is crucial.
Review and Analyze: Go over the questions you got wrong and understand why. This can provide insights into patterns in your mistakes.
Free Mock Tests: Utilize free mock tests as part of your preparation. They offer a realistic exam experience and can help identify areas for improvement. You can access a list of
free mock tests here.Remember, the GMAT is just one part of your application. Schools also consider your academic background, work experience, and other factors.
