GMAT Focus Prep - Seeking Advice

Question

Hello,

I am in need of some advice on how to prep for the GMAT Focus!

I will be applying to business schools next fall and am planning to start my test prep in January.

My questions are:

-If I set my test date for the first week of April, that will give me 3 months to prepare. I have no prior preparation or experience with the GMAT. Does that sound like enough?

-Should I take the first Focus Mock test before I start studying to diagnose my weak areas, or should I study for a bit first before taking the first mock test?

Hi Welcome to GMAT Club!

3 months is great! Most people are somewhere between 3 and 4 months. Many courses are designed for 3.

Taking a diagnostic is a great idea. Learn a bit about question types and take an official test from mba.com

In terms of other thoughts and plans, we have a few study plans. They were developed before gmat focus but that does not really change them.

For the prep, get the official guide - it is a good source of official questions but it is not enough. You will need something else such as a book or a course to improve effectively.

Consider taking an Official Focus mock from the MBA website after getting a bit familiar with the material. 2 of the 6 are free.

This is a misnomer as you can take the 2 free tests probably 3 times and not see repeats so you are just fine to take it in your first week to setup a baseline.

Regarding your timeline, I think the best move is to take a practice test so you can get a baseline score. Once you see how far off you are from your goal score, you can determine a more precise estimated timeline.

This is misleading since you can take the two free exams three times without seeing duplicates, so you can take them in your first week to build a baseline.
