Let me tell you guys/girls this much. You have already put too much effort into AWA prep by even thinking this much about it. Spend no more than 40 minutes on the entire section and prepare yourself for the quant. As long as you have decent typing skills, you will be able to write more than enough. (I couldn't think of much and did not write as much as I had wanted)

I scored a 5.0, which is decent. I thought I scored as low as 3.0 and would not have been shocked with a 2.5. I am not a great writer, but certainly capable. I practiced the AWA once and had not written an essay since college (5+ years).

I agree with Kidderek, don't waste too much time on AWA. From what I've heard the main reason AWA exists is for comparison to application essays to make sure the applicant didn't hire someone to write their essays for them.

I only spent like half the time alotted on my AWA because I didn't want to mentally exhaust myself. I kept both essays short and concise. I know to get the high scores you're supposed to write a lot but I focused more on keeping it short but well-written instead of trying to drag it out to 500 words or something.
