I took the online GMAT focus exam a few weeks ago and a few days after my test the official score became available, and I chose a few programs to send the official score reports to. However, yesterday, I was checking my GMAT profile and it has been labeled as 'violation' for some reason (not sure when this happened precisely, I never got an email notification from GMAT of any sort), the official score is now unavailable and I do not have the option to send any scores to programs (I will contact GMAT about this).

Sorry you have to deal with this @alansmith0987

Given the current 'violation' status, I was wondering if GMAT had informed the schools I've opted to send score reports to that the score they sent earlier is 'violation' or this won't be affected in any way and the schools I've sent it to earlier can only see my original score and not later notified of the 'violation'.

Any insight/advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi. I don’t think this is a big deal. There are so many reasons for them to flag and exam including one at the test center that schools have become fairly resilient to things like these.

Also, violation is usually the language used when they cancel a score. It doesn’t mean anything inappropriate has taken place.

For example, if you go to the test center and when you finish the exam and are to leave the test center, You pull out a phone or take out a notepad from the locker, that is a violation if you turn it on and look at it while you’re at the test center but it’s not a violation if you do it two seconds later outside of the door center…

You can write a one sentence note on your application to say something on the lines of my score was mysteriously canceled by GM for unexplained reasons. As the result, I took the test at the center and received an even higher score of whatever.

PS. I would definitely bug GMAC through their main channel and social media channels. They owe you a reply and I know early days of GMAT online, after people contacted attorneys who had contacted GMAC, things moved surprisingly positively… You have a lawyer friend 😖

PS. There are usually several levels of violation. Was there a specific code?

Hi alansmith0987,

I agree that your best bet is to call the folks at GMAC right away to get more information. Hopefully, the violation is minor and will disappear once GMAC does its review. In any case, get as much information as you can from them.
