Is the GMAT prep guide helpful ?

Quote:

Just do OG questions. They are quite.
Don’t be intimidated by weird charts and graphs. They are just scary looking. More often than not underneath there’s very simple problem.

Practice, practice, practice!

Hope it helps.
Thanks Sankalp

The problem with data insights is that there are not many materials or great strategies so I can critical reasoning for example.

Therefore, you have to approach data insights questions differently. You are stuck basically practicing a very limited number of official questions and a very limited number of unofficial questions. This is also fairly unique.

1. Do not just attempt questions like YouTube shorts. There are very few of these so treasure each one of them. Try to learn as much as you can. No to the pattern and if you find a trap or a trick or you make a mistake, print this question out and save so you know why you made the mistake.

2. Try to answer this questions in a few calculation steps as possible. I recommend playing a game: without timing yourself, try to see if you can solve a data insights question without doing any calculations or perhaps not more than three operations. You can spend as much time as you want finding the way. You can do this even with the questions you have already attempted. Many of them have ways to solve them in multiple different ways.

3. Make note. Note down and write down anything you learn and save any question you make a mistake on until you know how to solve that question really well.
Thank you so much

I think for someone choosing between these platforms, they do offer trial, so would be wiser to try them rather than depend on someone’s reasoning on why it worked for them

I agree. If there is a free trial, you are procrastinating for no reason. Take the trial and see if it works for you and if you’re feeling productive and motivated and if it works, just use it.

I can tell you that while there are variety of materials and they do differ but among the reputable prep companies, it’s not really because the materials are so much better than what others have. It’s really about you - you need to be the one putting in the time and putting in the effort in learning because no matter how good the materials are, if you don’t learn and don’t do the work, you won’t get a high score.

So as you’re evaluating a platform, don’t worry so much about evaluating quality of materials because you probably can’t do that unless you are a tutor yourself, instead focus on whether this platform or books or course are motivating you and empowering you to study more and if you can Continue doing that for two or three months.

If you hate the paper the book is printed on or you hate the accent of the speaker or something else bothers you, move onto the next platform or book or whatever.

Choosing a course or a prep product is highly personal. What works for me will probably not work for you and vice versa just because people learn differently

Is the GMAT prep guide helpful ?
Do you mean the OG
Yes it’s quite helpful

Yes! It’s the collection of the official questions. Make sure you buy a new copy because it has an access code to the online practice questions for data insights. A used copy will not give you that unfortunately.

However, the official guide only has questions for practice and it will not really teach you any strategies or timing or even helpful things about arguments or reading comprehension so you need something else to augmented such as Manhattan prep books or one of the online courses to help you learn the underlying material and user time efficiently. You absolutely can pick a lot of stuff from articles on GMAT Club and posts but that’s some more time-consuming process so I always recommend just picking up some inexpensive books. The previous edition of MGMAT it’s perfectly fine for example and you can get them really cheap if you can’t afford the new ones. You can also get Kaplan‘s old books or power score. They are for the previous version of the test but perfectly usable if you’re trying to save money. They cost something like 10 or 15 bucks.

I'd recommend using the GMAT Ninja videos on quant to help hone your quant skills. DI is basically checking to see if you know how to do the problems without actually solving them. My humble two cents.
