Books I use:
MGMAT books (basics + practice), Kaplan Premiere (practice), Princeton Review (mostly for practice), OG11 (practice)
I have been reading the basics and practicing for the last two months. I have practiced half the OG11 (solved the difficult questions first). I did not time myself since I knew my timing would be horrible and wanted to concentrate on getting the answers right. My accuracy for quant questions is around 90% and for the verbal questions it is 80%.
I was in for a rude awakening yeterday when I attempted a
MGMAT CAT. The quant score is too embrassing to mention and the verbal score is 40. I could not even finish half the quant section. Not to mention once I took 5 mins to solve each problem at the start, I paniced and it was all downhill after that (both speed and accuracy wise). I managed to get through 25 questions in verbal section before I paused the clock. I solved the other 16 questions with the clock paused. This cheating got me a verbal score of 40.
Now my question is what the heck should I do about my speed? Did you guys have a similar experience for your initial practice CATs?
Absolutely. Be careful not to hit that pause button on
MGMAT Cats
My first
MGMAT test was 470... not to mention I took about an extra 30min per section b/c I hit the pause button.
However, my last one was a 640 and my teacher for the
MGMAT class told me my score should be higher b/c of a few screw ups in the verbal section on
MGMAT's part.
40 on V is awsome. don't worry bout the quant. The questions from
MGMAT are hard and require you to spend lots of time on them.
Also, I dunno bout others, I don't finish everyone question. If I see a question thats really hard and that I know I can't solve, I make some educated guesses and MOVE ON.
If you don't know how to solve the problem in the first 30sec-1min, its highly doubtful you will get it in the next 1min-2min. Try to eliminate some answers and guess.
