I think my first step at figuring out how to make DS easier was to make sure I didn't look at both answers before I tried to solve. I was always looking at both A and B and while thinking I was only doing A. I started to cover B with my hand while reading A to make sure I only solved A. Then did the oppposite when solving B. For some reason I couldn't process them separately until after I did this for several study sessions, then it became first nature to look at them separately first.
Another thing, to help with time, remember that you only need to know you CAN solve it. You don't have to solve it, just know that you can. Once you know that, move on. As an engineer myself, it was hard to stop at just knowing I could solve the problem, and not solving all the way to the final definitive answer. If you can get comfortable with that line of thinking, it should help with timing. Best of luck.
