If my GMAT score is good I'll apply to schools this fall, for class of 2011. Any advice on whether to send my scores right away when taking the test? Is it a pain to have them sent afterwards? Thanks!

I say you should send them anyways because if you for some reason didn't send them your score and had to retake the exam, they will see your first attempt anyway when you eventually do send them the second score.

Any say if you did really well, you will save $$$ by sending them at the exam itself.

I've got nearly the same question... but I won't apply until two years (fall 2010 or 2011)...

I'm planning to take the test in april; should I send my score just after or should I wait until the year of my application ?

If you don't mind spending a couple hundred extra dollars, it's probably better not to send until you know you test scores. Sure, if you retake later and send your second scores the first scores will appear on the report. But if you aced the test the second time around why care about the first score any more - the schools won't? While if you failed the second time around, you might wanna take the test a third time, or change your mind on the schools you consider applying to.
Some schools do not like seeing more than two sets of scores. So, if you are a multiple test taker, make sure no scores after your second attempt get sent.

But then couldn't you just wait to send a second time until you get the score you want? like after the 3rd attempt?

If you send after the third attempt, all three scores will appear on the report. And if the schools you sent to do not like to see more than 2 attempts (e.g. UCLA), then you'r in trouble.

This strategy mostly works if you re-take and your score was pretty good the first time but not great, say low 700s. Then, if you scored the same or only 10 points above on your second attempt you are better off not sending those scores.

I agree about the 3 attempts bit. But that is more of an argument not to take it as opposed to not sending it (which i thought was the question)?

i'd say just send anyways.. the school isnt going to consider them until you apply anyways...
