Mine was right about the same. My GMATPrep 2 was a 710 and I scored a 720 about 4 days later on the real thing.

Mine GMAT preps were somewhat higher (10-40 points), but it's maybe because I saw some questions here on forums and took each of GMAT preps several times. The lowest GMAT prep was 740, the highest 790 (2nd retake); the real thing was 750.

This is what I think:

I took the test twice in a space of 1.5 years. Both times GMAT prep was pretty close. I scored an average of 700-710 during the first time and a 690 on the real one. During the second try, I scored a 740-760 (i took the test 4 times, 4 days in a row before actual test day) and scored a 760 on the real one. So I would say it is pretty close.

Word of caution: If you are someone like me who does not remember the actual questions or the answers after 1-2 days you can use the Powerprep software more number of tries. However, if you are like some of my friends, who remember the question along with the choices, it would be a bad representative of your real skills.

Hope this helps!

My gMATpreps were about 60-80 points off the real thing. The highest score I had on the Prep was 700 (if I remember right); I got a 760 on the real thing.

Mine was basically right on:

First GMAT attempt:
GMAT PREP score from two days before the test: 650
Real GMAT: 640

Second GMAT attempt:
GMAT PREP score from two days before the test: 700
Real GMAT: 710

For me GMATprep was not a good way to evaluate my real level. At the first attempt, i scored 700 on Prep and a 590 in the real. At the second, i scored 730-780 in prep, and only 670 in real. So, prep was ok for verbal, but the prep's math is easier then that of the real exam.
