Hello All,
I am new to the forums and am just starting to get my feet wet in preparing for the GMAT. I have read through various posts (very helpful thus far) and just had a question regarding the above subject.
I have decided to go through with taking the 9 week MGMAT course, but my question is the timing of when I should take it. Self study for a month or so first? - and if so, what book(s) would be best suited? I have been looking at either Kaplan GMAT Live Online 2010 or Kaplan GMAT Advanced.
Or would the best strategy be to study on my own afterwards?
I am looking at giving myself about 4 months to prepare.
Any suggestions or personal experiences would be much appreciated.

There is no right or wrong answer here.
For every hour you spend in the MGMAT class, you have ~3 hours of outside of class work to do (I took a MGMAT class as well).
You could self study and do great, you could take a class and do great. Much of this depends on your needs and how you will overcome shortcomings to achieve the desired score.
My advice:
Take a diagnostic test (free practice test). Use the results from the test to determine if you feel as though you can self study to achieve the desired score or if you feel as though you need a class room environment to help you through the process.
