Hi everyone,
I've recently figured out that I have some degree of caffeine dependency. Basically, I need at least one coffee, if not two, to get me through each work day. Initially I didn't think this was enough to cause any sort of dependency, but I kept drinking because there are many days in which it's a real struggle to feel energetic about my work tasks, so something's got to get me through.
As you can imagine, as soon as the weekend hits, I cut off from the caffeine and go about doing my own business, which usually consists of playing sports, managing the pennies in my brokerage account, and as of late, GMAT prep.
My weekend GMAT performance has been surprisingly underwhelming thus far, in contrast with my intra-week performance. My thoughts feel blurred, my stamina tanks, and I want to go to sleep.
This trend has increased on days that I don't drink coffee. I am now truly starting to think that I have a dependency on caffeine to get me through work, and now it's become physiological.
So here's the deal:
- two weeks left until exam day
- I can try to cold-turkey my coffee dependency and risk it taking up to a week (though potentially could have it out of my system by tomorrow night)
- Or just accept that I'll need a bit of caffeine a day... keep taking just a bit so taht my study sessions aren't affected, and then give it up after test day
- (I'm taking a 10 day holiday after the test so I can basically play sports, sleep and rest - hopefully work it off).
Any recommendations? I don't want to be caffeine-dependent, but the last 48 hours have not been pleasant.
