well it is basically your "starting point". Will the person who got a 600 the first time be better off? most likely yes since he/she will be able to focus more on specific topics rather than you focusing on "everything" (and it looks like you might need to). But besides that it is up to the person's ability to study and understand the material. I suggest you to take a GMAT 3 months from now since the "ideal" time for studying to test is 3 months so you will be fresh and if nothing else you get to gauge how well you have done. Get the MGMAT books and powerscore SC books in addition to the OGs. also join in on discussions here - especially the math/verbal forum questions - it helps a lot since sometimes you see questions you wouldnt see on the books you have.

The most I see people improve is probably around 200 points (very rough approximation obviously), so you are right there on the verge unless you have language issues. You are basically looking into 3 intense months of prep/refresh/etc.
