Okay, I've decided I want to go to Business School and take the GMAT. I have already done some pretty extensive research into the various study books available, however I would really appreciate some more input. I really despise Kaplan's teaching methods and have ruled their books out. It sounds like the Manhattan series contains some 'must have' books, yet that series is way too large for me. So I ask what are basic books that you recommend that include basic strategies for taking the GMAT? I would greatly appreciate the help, thanks in advance!

I have just started my GMAT preparation today. However, I have been browsing thru GMAT club for more than a month now.
Based on the reviews of books and the study plan for novices here, I have started with Princeton Review. I also have the Kaplan premier 2009 book which I may refer to in case I need further explaination on a topic. I dont think both are required, either of these should serve the purpose.
After completing one round with this, I plan to study specialised material for areas I am weak in like Manhattan SC, Powerscore CR etc. After that, I will start with OG questions.
Hopefully the seniors here will give you better advise.

First off, you should take a practice test and see where you are. Then, compare that to where you want to be. We've got everything from LiveOnline to classroom courses.
I agree with resh. Generally, you should start out with a wide-ranging book and then move to more specific areas that you need to focus on.
