Yes, they look at the highest score. Assuming that your GMAT history is not very unusual, schools will usually place the most weight on that one too. But they can see all of your other scores within the last five years.

The schools don't even look at the Official Score Report until after they've made a decision - like a way to corroborate your reported score and such, I think. Or if you have a 51 V and you can't write to save your life, in which case they'll think something's fishy.

As people mentioned the scores are all sent to the school, so sending it to a "dummy school" wouldn't be a great idea if you really felt that you did bad. But hey, what if you THINK you did bad 'cos all the GMAT was doing was throwing 700 level questions at you? Take a chance, as your judgment calls :)

Thanks for your detailed answers. I'll do my best to make sure I won't even think about cancelling the score on D-Day.

Hi everyone

Just a follow on question - i took my GMAT 2yrs back but did not apply anywhere.
I am retaking it in a couple of days, but am wondering the same thing - whether to name the schools (say X,Y&Z) that i will actually apply to, or some others (say AB&C).

If i name X,Y&Z, will my previous score still be sent along with my new one, despite my not reporting it last time?
Or, if I name A,B&C before writing the test, and then if my score is good, send it to X,Y&Z, will GMAC still send my previous one along with?

Hope the post is not as confusing as I am right now :(

Thanks a ton for replying!

It appears that when you send your score to a school, the school will also receive any preceding score as well, not just the latest one.

Mandy4983, your questions were already answered in this thread. The GMAC sends all your scores within the last five years to the designated schools. You took the GMAT two years ago. That's within the last the last five years. Therefore, it will be included in your official score report.

Other than waiting for more than five years, there's no way to hide previous scores from your targeted school.
