Can you get the school to email you a copy instead of mailing it? I had the same problem and eventually just had them email me a copy. Luckily it was less than 500kb.

is it too blurry as a JPEG? An 11x8.5 page shouldn't be too blurry if the resolution is 800x600 or whatever.

Scan it, and print it as a document. Except rather than print it from the printer, print it with a PDF Document Printer (Should be within Word).

You should have the option to either save as a pdf or save and then print as pdf (which creates a pdf file). A pdf will be below that level.

the same problem here
Because my scanner automatically transform the image as a pdf and was over 500kb
what I did was to print screen, reduce the size of the images and then printed again as pdf
if you need help reducing the size of the images such let me know!

tried everything i could and got down to 1mb

its almost impossible to get files that small and still have them be readable when transcripts these days have fancy backgrounds to try and prevent forgery
