Well, if your school is anything like Booth then you won't be able to do anything before April / May. The school will need to confirm its tuition costs for 2011-12 before you can apply for Financial Aid (if you intend to take it) or issue your I-20 (the first step on your road to a visa). Apparently, once the process gets started it will only take a month or two so there will be plenty of time for travel afterwards. You should also plan some time to pack up your life in Canada (it will take longer than you think) so that you're ready to move in August.

A couple of things to remember:

1) You can't enter the US on your student visa until 30 days before the start of the course / enrolment (probably 2nd week of August). You should be OK to enter on the visa waiver programme with a bit of explaining (just make sure they don't stamp your student visa paperwork) but you'll need to leave and re-enter the US before your course starts (or request a reclassification of visa status).

2) Student visas are 'non-immigrant visas', so when you go for your visa interview remember that you have no intention of remaining in the US after your MBA has finished.
