Hi
All the business schools want a recommendation from immediate supervisor. I can get that but i personally don't have much respect for him. He is so lazy that i don't even know if he will do it on time. Although my mid year and year end reviews are great.
I have good review at work and every single person i have worked with will vouch for my leadership and organization skills.
Do i have to have his recommendation? He is just so un-professional in some remarks that I am on the verge of going to HR for that. I do have a strong standing among peers and other seniors that I have nothing to fear and everyone can pretty much see through him too. Only reason I haven't done it so far is because I know he can not harm me directly and he will dig his own grave one day.
Anyway, i don't mean it to be a ranting session but i need advice. I can manage to get recommendation from him too. I have kept my true feelings undercover and usually limit my interaction with him to stay sane.
I have other great options. Any of my previous direct supervisor and also my boss's boss, are happy to provide me a recommendation. They are much more professional, encouraging and smart people.
So following questions:
I have worked more closely with our department manager, who is my immediate supervisor's boss, an extremely intelligent and hardworking person, who is happy to give me recommendation. Will his recommendation count as immediate supervisor since I worked directly with him on most of the project this past year?
If i have to give a reason to B-school about not having my immediate supervisor's recommendation; what is the best reason, without being negative?
Appreciate your help
