Hi all,
I'll be applying for HBS 2+2 at R2.
I'm from a polisci/IR background with internship experience in the aerospace/defense industry and related EC.
In addition to this, I am French (born and raised and uni in France).
In the HBS essay, I was considering focusing a lot on that French/European background, talking about how I believe a strong integration and/or partnerships within the defense/aerospace industry is a way to get France & Europe out of economic stagnation, and how I would achieve it - or try to - if I were to be in a leadership position.
Do you think this kind of "grand vision" or "grand strategy" is a good idea, or will it be seen as me being a bit full of myself/over my head ?
Because I really don't feel like discussing anecdotes, and I think my French-European background might well make the difference when competing when profiles of smilar quality.
Any idea on that ?

Hi there,
That's definitely a unique background and a very interesting economic theory. Having grand strategy viewpoints isn't a bad thing by any means. It shows quite a bit about you, actually. However, keep in mind you're in undergrad and you're applying for a deferred program.
So, in that regard, make sure you don't make yourself sound full of it. If you have a post-grad job lined up in the A&D industry, then it certainly makes sense to have some high level ties to your longer term goals and perspectives but, if it doesn't, then you're going to seem like you're reaching.
It's hard to give you a more specific answer without seeing your essay or knowing more about you but just remember, you don't want to write an essay that, while theoretically or existentially pure brilliance, will register on the BS meter.

I'm actually currently pursuing a Master's in International Security (after an UG in political science), and interning at the leading European A&D company. And my career goal is, of course, to work in the A&D industry.
