Last week i received two mail..one from George Washington Mba and another from Simon school of business.I was really wondering if these are marketing gimmicks or they are worth a thought. the contents are pasted below.
Dear Subhajit,
Greetings from the Simon Business School Admissions Office! As a follow-up to the packet of information we recently mailed, I am writing to inform you that you have been designated as a Priority Candidate for Admission – Congratulations! This distinction is based on your recent accomplishments on the GMAT and your participation in the Graduate Management Admissions Search Service.
At Simon our approach to management education hinges on enrolling the top 150 most qualified MBA applicants annually. Our Admissions Committee believes you may have the credentials to be a fit for our program, and would like to invite you to schedule an Admission and Scholarship Evaluation.
Your 30-minute phone or Skype appointment will consist of speaking with an Admissions Officer about your academic and professional goals, and how Simon can help you achieve them. Shortly following your meeting, you will receive a written assessment outlining your potential for admission, the scholarship range typically awarded to students with similar credentials, and an Application Fee Waiver to encourage your application.

In the past, many candidates with similar profiles have been admitted to the George Washington University School of Business. For the Global MBA class entering in 2013, 63% received a scholarship with an average award of nearly $45,000 - more than half the cost of tuition.

Has someone else recievd such emails....both these schools were not in my list..but after receiving these emails i was wondering if it was worth giving the emails a thought and apply to these schools as safety schools.

I got them too. I think they just send out a blanket email to everyone who made their GMAT score public and has a score over a certain threshold.
I've got them from Notre Dame, IE, Simon, Illinois, George Washington, UC Irvine, and a bunch of others. So far, i haven't gotten one from a top 25 school unless you count IE, which I don't.

It's just marketing stuff. You could also get one from Tuck. They want you to know that they exist, hoping that you will apply.
