If my former supervisor left the firm we both worked at and his new tiny firm doesn't have a letterhead, what is the proper format to use?

Also, is his signature required on the bottom of the letter? He doesn't have a scanner so it just caused extra work for him and want to make it as easy as possible for him.

My former supervisor retired from the firm we worked at together. She just submitted the LOR in a word document with no letterhead - I don't think it really matters. No signature either.

Neither of my recommenders submitted their recommendations with a letterhead on it. I know that schools do prefer that you use professional email addresses for them (i.e. not a gmail one) but I haven't seen any of them asking for letterheads.

Just my two cents....

Hey there,

Almost all programs not capture recommendations electronically which means letterhead won't be an issue. Hopefully your recommender has a professional email address he can use. Either way, be sure to detail the situation in the optional essay but you can reasonably expect some probing should you be a valid candidate worth consideration.
