I know this topic has been discussed many times, however I still need to ask about this.
I graduated last year (2014). I have a Bachelor's in Business Administration and would like to get a Master's degree soon. Most of my friends have already given the entrance exams and have started applying for colleges here in India. I did not give last year's exam because I wasn't prepared, and also because I wanted to have some work experience and study abroad later. I did get a job, but perhaps I wasn't really suited which is why I quit after just one and a half months. Now, I'm not really finding anything suitable. I don't know if I'll get a job soon. I have given myself another month's time to find a job. If I don't, I'll enroll into an institute that prepares you for entrance exams.
I feel like I've wasted a lot of time in making up my mind. Yes, there are people who take a year gap to study and give exams, but without any work experience, I wonder if I'll get into a good college. Indian students tend to go for an MBA right after graduating sometimes, just to get everything over with as fast as possible. I'm worried that if I don't get good scores, I'll have wasted all these months (and money) with nothing to show for it.
Should I just keep focusing on getting a job right now? I feel like I've lost hopes and patience. If I don't get a job within a month's time and start preparing for my exam, will I get into a good college even without the work experience?

Here's a thought for you dude - Keep that MBA option open for AFTER you have worked. Instead think of a more "Technical" degree in something that interests you that will give you concrete and employable skills - like Masters in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Biology, Psychology, whatever it is you want to do... The better MBA programs require work experience, and there's no need for you to do THAT particular degree without any work experience.

Hi there! It’s very easy to get overwhelmed at a time like this. You have to keep in mind, however, that what’s done is done and your focus needs to be on your next step. The short answer to your question is that you’ll need SOME work experience for the top MBA programs. Below is some other advice you might find useful…
Take a step back and think long term – where do YOU want to be in 4-5 years? Try to put your friends and colleagues aside for a moment and focus on YOUR path. If you finally decide that an MBA is what you need to achieve your goals, you should focus on finding a job then thinking about a pulling together a plan to prepare for the GMAT. If not, consider the degrees that Jon laid out above…but the most important thing is to understand what YOU truly want to do. The biggest mistake is to fall into something like a master’s program because you feel like you have no other options. Whatever you decide, you should be able to justify it by saying “this next step will help me achieve X…” Best of luck, my friend!
