GMAT vs. GRE? Which set should I submit?? (help needed ASAP)

Question

I need help! I'm a round 3 applicant to a few top tier schools. I took both the GRE and GMAT just before the April deadlines, and am submitting scores now, after the fact (adcom was okay with this). I have weak spots on my transcript in quant classes, looking to focus on social impact programs in my MBA to pursue nonprofit career post-MBA. I acknowledged that I need to strengthen my quantitative skills in essays and elsewhere, and it's actually one of the reasons I am pursuing an MBA.

Which score set will make me a stronger applicant??

GRE
Verbal: 167 (97th percentile)
Quantitative: 154 (56th percentile)
Analytical Writing: 4.0 (56th percentile)

GMAT
Verbal: 46 (99th percentile)
Quantitative: 39 (43rd percentile)
Total: 690 (87th percentile)
Analytical Writing: 6.0 (92nd percentile)
Integrated Reasoning: 4 (37th percentile)

I'd say your GMAT if you are applying now.

Although my bigger question would be: why R3? what's the rush? And why not retake? Your verbal is super high.. and a bit more points on the Quant, you are gooooood!

Hi,

Assuming you are applying now, I think you should submit both the scores. This outstanding 'consistency' in the verbal portion of both the tests will establish that you are very competent in understanding language related reasoning. In one sense, your scores may emphasize the truth that people are good at different things, and can probably mitigate the weakness in your quant area. But try to improve your quant score, if you think this doesn't represent your best. The fact is when your scores are good, you can use your essay space more to covey your inspiring stories than your reasons why you are to be viewed as a promising candidate and to convey more on what you are than on what you aren't.

Thanks. I had planned on waiting until next school year to apply, but decided just in the past few months that it would be best not to stay in my current job another full year. Took the GRE and GMAT both very late with little prep, and could probably improve my quant score if I study the GMAT-specific material before the test. Which I may well do, if I have to reapply next year. Thanks to you both for your answers! I submitted both sets to the schools I'm applying to, and we'll see what happens...
