One of the school I'm applying to has an essay prompt which goes something like this
"you just entered the elevator with an adcom of our school. You can only speak very short duration. What would you say so that he/she would look favorably upon your application?" [250 words max]
I need to know what should be the format of this essay?
Option 1 Should I be informal and show it as a two way communication
Me - Hi you are the adcom to the program?
Adcom - Oh yes
Me - I'm applying to your program. I believe it is a good fit for me?
Adcom - oh is it? I would like to know more about you?
Me - well, as an IT person I have solved quite complex unstructured problems which are typical in business scenario blah blah blah blah
Option 2 Go formal with little or no two way communication
Me - hi Ms. Adcom I am applying to your school. I feel I'm the right fit as majority of my work has been to handle complex unstructured problems akin to problems in business blah blah blah blah
Option 3 Keep it like any other essay by just highlighting your points
Majority of my work has been blah blah

One more thing, is it alright to ask the admission committee about the format?

I don't think it is ok for you to ask the admissions office for the format. Imagine if every student did that, they would never get any work done! Besides, the schools leave it up to you on purpose, they want to see how you personally will tackle the question., In my opinion, I would go with option 2. Partly because you won't have enough room to role play the admissions committee side, and it could come off as being too cute. Good luck to you!
