Hello all,
This would be my second time applying to business school.
I had applied last year to: Duke, UNC, BU and W&M. Got into BU w/ scholarship, but decided not to attend.
My profile is as follows:
Indian-American Male
26
GMAT: 680 (Will retake in August/September)
4 Years of Work Experience
Job 1: Tech Product Company-Worked as a consultant on software implementation with a financial services software company. Lots of leadership experiences
Job 2: Global Tech Consulting Company (Think IBM, Accenture etc.) Currently working on a project for the Federal Government. Not so much leadership experiences. The project I am currently on does not lend itself to leadership opportunities. (Currently on a software testing project). Very very mundane project.
ECs: Lots of ECs in Undergrad
Volunteer with an org supporting people with job skills/opening up businesses.
I'd really like to apply to business school in Fall 2016 for a Fall 2017 start date. I believe business/strategy/operations is my passion and I'd like to get started on that route sooner than later. My current skill set does not lend itself to those fields so I feel I need a grad degree to move to that route. Also, I'd like to go to a Top 20 school as those are the only ones I feel are worth going to considering tuition and two years of full time study. If I apply now I think I can "only" get into a Top 15-30 school. I'm not too confident in my current work experience. However, if I wait a year or two I think I can make it into the likes of Booth, NYU, Columbia etc. I'd love to attend one of those.
If I don't do a top MBA soon I will probably just do a part time MBA further down the line. My end goals are management consulting and then working for a tech/retail company like Amazon/Target/Walmart.
So I guess the big question is should I apply for schools now or wait a year and apply for top schools?
Thanks for your help all!
