Thanks for sharing your profile, see answers below:
is my profile realistic for columbia or am i too much of a plain jane?
-It is very realistic, but you will need to bump up that GMAT and really identify some standout elements in your profile, it does not have to be off the wall stuff, just something that presents you in an authentic and personable way, something the school can get behind. Highlight some passion of yours and how CBS can help you materialize that
Is it even worth retaking Gmat (does the 710 suffice)
Yes, you come from a tough demo, you will need those extra points
Would being married be positive to my application?
No
Should I join some non profits or volunteer my time or would adcom see through my ruse
If it makes sense, schools tend to care about this, just make sure it is authentic to who you are and your interests and identify something where you can gain some interpersonal skills (leadership, teamworks, etc) and can make a clear impact
Would an admissions consultant help? I'm not am awful writer but could def use help on the softer side (recommendations, logistics)
Always helps, there is a reason this industry exists, given your need to standout, it would probably help you out a ton
would appreciate any comments or advise.
