Hi all,
I had a petty misdemeanor case that was expunged years ago. Does anyone know if this will show up on background checks done by schools?
I've talked to a few law professionals and have gotten mixed information about what shows up because these are a private institution, so what they have access to may vary.
I know it shows up as a charge that was dismissed on government checks that use fingerprint such as Livescan, but I am under the impression that it should NOT show up on private background checks that use SSN. It shouldn't show the charge or the expungement. Can someone confirm this if they've had experience with a similar situation? I've already been admitted, and asnwered NO on the "Have you ever been convicted" because the expungement allows that. So I don't want to seem like I'm being dishonest if this shows up on the background check.

If it was regarding something serious, you can yourself address this to them. They should not feel that you are hiding something from the school.

I don't know... depends on a few things but you may be able to order a background check for yourself and see what shows up?
