Looking for expert advice on whether to opt in or opt out of being considered for merit fellowships/scholarships.
Will showing interest in merit fellowship have any effect (positive? negative?) on an applicant's chance of acceptance? I'm thinking that asking to be considered would be a good idea because 1) it shows your confidence in your application and 2) $$$ is nice to have.
On the flipside, I'm wondering if it would backfire if an applicant actually has a significant weakness in their application (which is of course explained in the optional essay)... In addition, if that applicant is financially stable enough to pay full tuition and costs, would it come across as being greedy (and lower the chance of admission)?
Experts, please give me some advice.
Thank you in advance!
