reaper1! In this scenario, you would most likely be considered a reapplicant (it is always best to check with each school on it's specific policy). While it can be tempting to reuse content from your first attempt at essays, I would try to avoid this as much as possible. Some of the themes and narrative around your early life won't necessarily change, but after a few years working you will have so much more content from which to choose. And the more recent the examples, the better. I don't think schools will view your earlier attempt at admission negatively; but they will look to understand how you have grown and evolved in the years that have passed (which shouldn't be hard to convey). It sounds like you're set on applying to deferred programs now, so I'd say go for it and, if you don't get in, try again in a few years. Good luck!
