After giving my GMAT and scoring 700+ in first attempt, a result of self-study only, I thought that creating an application will be a slightly easier task. After all, I won't have to study the concepts and apply them without mistakes. It was going to be about myself and my story. Won't I be able to write my own story fluently? I was proven wrong after I saw the essays.
One of them asked for my qualities which will help me become a leader. I started with a plain Q&A approach, answering with my qualities and how they have helped me achieve great things in the past, and ended it with linking to how I think those will help me become a great leader. But when I showed the essay to my reviewer friends, I was scolded for the uninteresting writing and irrelevant content. One of them asked me to not focus on me, the individual, but on the situations which made me the way I am.
I was left wondering how to demonstrate that my qualities will help me become a leader, without talking a lot about achievements. Even if I focus on How and not What, its going to be about the individual. And if its that, then it'll naturally become uninteresting and boring for the reader. I'm a story-writer, but failed miserably to write my own story in an exciting tone.
Can the amazing club members help me out in suggesting ways in which I can quote examples from my life without making it too boring for the reader? Further, what are some great examples of writing your own story? Finally, if I'm in that bad shape, should I seek help from a consultant, or will that too not help immensely?
