MBA recommendation letters are one of the most misunderstood parts of the application process. Many applicants focus on choosing the most senior recommender — when what actually matters is specificity, credibility, and examples of impact.

Hi @vkk991, what a story! But also what a come back! Rebellious immigrant kids FTW( sorry about your parents not talking to you anymore). I am also not a doctor and well my family is dealing with it!
In my view yes you have some major red flags but you also have shown so much growth and initiative to turn them around. You networked yourself as a pharmacy tech into a firm in an entirely new industry and got promotions in it, and now have gone into an entirely different industry. I think you are dynamic at applying yourself to new situations, you are clearly great at influencing people, you illustrate resilience and are actually quite smart.
A few points of advice from me:
-You have to study and knock the hell out of the GMAT. I think with your track record you can do it. With this story you cannot afford to show up with less that 700 in my view
-You also have to get very strong recommendations and good extra curricular activities. In general the rest of your profile has to absolutely be as close to flawless as possible.
-You will have a chance to explain your undergraduate in the additional information section of your essays as well. One thing I would advise is to learn to rewrite your story with more taking responsibility and less laying blame on your parents. Life happens and we can all make some poor choices. Does not mean you do not deserve a chance at new opportunities.
-You will have to network super hard into the schools you are applying to.They have to know your face to connect to this story and be able to get past it. They have to see the person beyond the stats you are coming in with.
- My last thought is the be very clear on why you want an MBA. The PE world is all about networks and track record and a lot of people in it do not go to MBAs to advance in it. What is an MBA really going to do for you?
