and experience working with customers, leading a team of 6 engineers
working on new tools for the customer..

is all that too common?

I wish I could see the number of applicants from Aerospace industry and the number accepted

I guess there are 2 separate questions to answer, are you Indian and are you IT; since by themselves each is an over-represented group. Take both together - well you know.

I have heard (and I don't know if this applies to all schools) that Indian nationals are considered separately from people that are Indian but have different citizenship. I do not recall if you are an Indian national, but your degrees from Australia and the US might be helpful. You aren't a US permanent resident by chance are you?

The second part would be whether you will be pooled with the IT cohort. Leading a team certainly helps, but a team of engineers probably means you are working in that field. I guess you could play up your interactions with customers. I had a cousing that was an engineer with TI, but after he had been with them for a while they moved him to a customer-facing position that was more like marketing, even though he was applying his engineering skills. Does that apply for you?

I really feel for you guys man. That Indian IT group is a tough nut to crack. Looking at your target schools, I think you may need to try for more than 670 to break into Chicago or Haas. I don't really have any info on CMU or London.

Willget800,
I have been speaking with a UChicago Alumni who is actively involved in the adcom. I have a GMAT of 660 and he asked me to certainly retake it. I am a biomedical engg and work in the core medical research field and he feels that the score is on the lower side even for my background. Not to sound discourage you, but you may want to reconsider retaking the exam if you want to eliminate GMAT as one of your restrictors to your admission.

Keep in touch if you have more questions.

Thanks,

Vijay

hi vij,

thanks a lot for your reply...

I am not sure how I can get my V up.. Cant I speak of my low V in the optional essay...

I might get the Q to 51, but the V I think I am gonna max out on 33....

which makes it 700.. at the max..... I am worried I will spend 3 more months on gmat and get behind in the essays again.. I am more worried of good essays.. as I am struggling with them now...

I know a student at Chicago with gmat of 660.. nothing stellar......... and he was mentioning to me not to waste time on gmat any more since I fall in the mid 80% range... I guess if you know you can improve it.. then go for it..

But I have spend 1 year on gmat,, got it to 660, then i spend 2 more months with veritas and manhattan and got it to 670... I lost quite a amount of time with gmat when I should have concentrated on essays...

OVERALL, I AM CONFUSED! After I apply to couple of schools, maybe I can think of retaking gmat...

But essentially, my mind is really set on two schools. Chicago or London.
I just dont have time to sit till Dec and do gmat, because then I know I wont make it in with the essays for R2 in these two schools. Initially i started to aim with R1.. and I am struggling with essays !

unless i quit work, go back to India, work on my dads business and work on gmat and essays full time, and mention in my essays that i took the decision to go back to begin working on business...
which might not sound too good since i will be there for 6 months only... when i apply..

confused!

My situations exactly....660..nothing stellar..ultimate aim to go back and join my Dad's business in which I hope to expand the operations consulting division. If you feel right, Go ahead on full throttle with your apps. I plan to retake as I decided to postpone my apps for a year. owise I ould have continued to my essays.

Try to be very very clear in your objective and stress that in your essays/interview ......essentially thats wat they look for...
