Hi. You can apply with as little as two years of work experience to most programs.
Some top business schools don’t even require work experience and would consider any candidate. It’s not really about the length of work experience but rather about the career trajectory and what you’ve been able to do with your time. Sometimes if you have reached a plateau, you may be better off applying with less work experience rather than more.
Therefore, the quality of application would be determined by the quality of your work experience rather than quantity.
One of the reasons the average work experiences four or five years at matriculation for most applicants is that by that time (minus one year) they’ve had a number of accomplishments and promotions that they can talk about in their applications and resume.
I would definitely not delay your application simply to add an extra year. Sometimes it makes sense in case there’s a promotion coming or some thing else but not otherwise…
