I have a question regarding R1 vs R2 applications, specifically at NUS.
Because I could not take the GMAT before a certain date, I missed out on most R1 applications.
However, I have NUS in my sights, which still has its R1 deadline pending.
My question - I am optimistic about getting a positive outcome from NUS admissions. But if I do end up getting an admission in NUS, I still want to see how the process at other colleges plays out. I am targeting 3-4 US schools, 1 Canadian School and ISB besides NUS. Since I will be applying to all these schools in their R2, if I end up getting an admission from NUS, I don't want to pay the hefty non-refundable acceptance deposit without knowing if I got into some of my other choices.
Would it be best to skip the R1 for NUS and apply in R2, if that's the case?

Well... this is a good question that you need to think about in advance.
What is more important to you - getting in early and knowing that you are in or paying the deposit?
If NUS is your top choice, then I think the risk is low.
If you are trying to see if you can get better program/scholarship elsewhere, that's normal. Many people try to get a foot in the door and then shop for scholarships and updates to their application strategy but not a lot of options to avoid paying the deposit besides applying everywhere in the same round and that is risky. Would you be fine if you did not get into your top schools this year? If not, and you have to go for an MBA in the next 9 months, then I would apply to NUS sooner than later.
P.S. There are a few MBA programs with rolling application cycles and some programs with non-standard cycles.
IE and INSEAD J-term come to mind as well as Columbia J-Term
