What are my admit chances? and need a little bit of career guidance

Hi guys,

Here is my profile:

WE: 1.8 years in Cyber security(Security operations and forensics). Pretty dead end.
Category : India IT male. (Over represented)
Company: Accenture
Degree: Btech (Electronics engineering)
GPA: 7.3
Target sector : I would love to work in finance (Haven't figured this out yet probably in risk domain)
Target countries: Canada(Preferable), Europe, Singapore and USA(Least preferable)
Target application year: 2025 intake.
Extra curricular activities: Organised few national level events in colleges and am actively a part of NGO.
School : Average school (251- 300 in the national ranking framework)
I will be giving my GMAT this december(2022) and I want to know which schools are feasible for me. Yes, I know my chances for M7 are 0. Also I would like to know what else I can do in order to improve my profile?

A high GMAT score will significantly propel your chances for a M7 admit. Make a detailed study schedule, and stick to it during the preparations. Best of Luck.

talathi1 : Thankfully you have some time since you are targeting a 2025 intake. Given you are coming from a competitive demographic, a score of at least 700 on the GMAT would really help. Take this seriously and don't rush it - again - since you have time. If you can somehow get in the 730+ range, that would boost your chances at many programs. If you really want to work in finance (now and/or post-MBA) you should find a way to get into the field. Even if the role you land is not your dream job per se, it's important to show you are making progress in getting to that long-term career goal. That will also make it easier to write your why MBA/career goals essays in a couple of years. Lastly, I don't see any extracurricular, leadership, or community activities listed. Do you have any from college and since graduation? That is an important component. I would also spend your time over the next year or so building out that aspect of your profile. Hi  talathi1  hope this finds you well.

I agree with Admissionado's advice about switching to a role in the periphery of the finance sector if you hope to eventually pivot to this industry. How you may utilize your current skills (coding, IT, data analytics) to help a finance department at a smaller company/start-up that cares much about your rigor and enthusiasm than it does about your background in cyber security. If you demonstrate 1st principle thinking and brush up your quant and coding skills a bit, you can get into a business analyst role in Finance (can be in supply chain finance, sales and marketing, HR etc.). Further building an understanding of the team and work over the next couple of years and taking suitable learning courses that help you advance your knowledge; you can strengthen your profile and get into a good B School in India or abroad.
